A dramatic Copa del Rey quarter-final saw Mallorca emerge victorious over Girona with a 3-2 final score. This one was a true rollercoaster of emotions!
Mallorca dominated possession for much of the first half and converted it into a commanding 3-0 halftime lead. The away team, Girona, despite a 75% ball possession in the second half, fought hard and clawed their way back. Girona got two goals back late in the game.
The highlight of the match was undoubtedly the late penalty, converting by Stuani that brought Girona back in the game. The subsequent red card to Raíllo further complicated things for Mallorca, making for a very tense and exciting closing stages.
Mallorca started the match by playing with an aggressive midfield, putting pressure on Girona's defense and limiting their attacking opportunities. Girona, in response, focused their efforts on maintaining possession and creating chances through quick counter-attacks. This strategy paid off with two great goals which made for a very exciting finale.
The atmosphere at Son Moix was electric throughout the match, with both sets of fans incredibly vocal. Ultimately, Mallorca's resilience and ability to hold on proved decisive in a contest that had everything from late goals to controversial red cards!
