The home side, Athletic Club, put on a commanding performance against Real Sociedad, securing a 2-0 victory in front of their passionate fans at San Mamés Barria.
Athletic played a very well-rounded game. They dominated possession, holding 61% of the ball, and were sharp in their approach to the final third. Their shots were accurate, with a good number of attempts on goal (15 shots). Real Sociedad struggled to get into the flow, their possession only 39% and their shots were comparatively fewer and less effective.
The most exciting moments were undoubtedly the goals. Athletic's first goal came from Raúl García in the 28th minute, assisted by Iñigo Córdoba. Then, Iñaki Williams added a second, following a great pass by Ander Capa in the 11th minute, showcasing Athletic Club's clinical finishing.
Real Sociedad, although not without their chances, were unable to convert. A handful of yellow cards also highlight some of the physical play during the match.
Athletic Club clearly came to play with a strategy based on controlling the midfield and making the most of counter-attack opportunities. Real Sociedad, in contrast, focused on possession-based football but struggled to turn that into scoring chances. The result reflects the difference in approach between the two sides.
