What a dominant performance by the Seattle Sounders tonight! They absolutely dismantled St. Louis City at Lumen Field, running out 3-0 winners.
The Sounders controlled the game from start to finish, showcasing a potent attacking display. They had a significant advantage in possession, racking up 61% of the ball, which put immense pressure on the St. Louis defense. They registered 12 shots, 6 of which were on target, demonstrating both the quality of their chances and their relentless pursuit of goals. Seattle also created a lot of opportunities with 5 shots inside the box. The Sounders were exceptionally strong in their midfield, creating a real barrier to St. Louis' attacking movements.
The game had some thrilling moments. A fantastic own goal in the 89th minute, when a St. Louis player diverted one of Seattle’s shots in their own net, sealed the victory. Seattle also capitalized on a number of opportunities. In the 71st minute, the brilliant R. Ruidíaz scored, followed by a well-worked goal from J. Atencio, assisted by N. Lodeiro in the 65th minute, adding more excitement to the match. St. Louis also had their chances, but failed to convert on their opportunities in the first half.
The Sounders' approach tonight was clear – relentless pressure, and a clinical approach in attack. The substitution strategy, with timely replacements in the second half, played an important part in maintaining momentum. It seemed the Sounders were in command from the start and were able to maintain their intensity throughout the match. St. Louis City, although not entirely absent in the attacking third, seemed unable to break down the Sounders' defense in the last hour. They had a few decent shots but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Overall, a fantastic victory for the Seattle Sounders, a convincing display of teamwork and clinical finishing.
