The Portland Timbers absolutely crushed the San Jose Earthquakes tonight, winning 6-1 at Earthquakes Stadium. The Timbers were on fire, dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities.
The Earthquakes, despite a valiant effort, found themselves outmatched. The Timbers' early pressure paid off; Portland took the lead with two goals in the first half. A penalty goal and a beautiful strike within 30 minutes established Portland’s early advantage.
The Earthquakes managed to pull one back late in the first half, giving the home crowd a glimmer of hope. The Earthquakes made a few substitutions at halftime, hoping to change the dynamic.
However, the second half belonged to Portland. The Timbers kept up the pressure, adding three more goals—one in the 70th, 82nd and 87th minutes of play—leaving no doubt about the outcome. The Earthquakes attempted to attack but struggled to find openings against a strong Portland defense.
